چکیده
ObjectiveWhether mitral valve repair is superior to replacement in the population with rheumatic heart disease has been debated. This study aims compare outcomes of by propensity score method.MethodsThis observational, prospective enrolled patients who underwent and from January 2011 April 2019. The method was used select 2 groups similar baseline characteristics. Baseline, clinical, follow-up data were collected. Clinical included death any cause, reoperation, valve-related complications.ResultsThe overall before matching (N = 1644) 612 1032 replacement. analysis generated matches for 1058 (529 pairs). median time 4.12 years. Early mortality cause during significantly lower group compared (hazard ratio, 0.19; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.05-0.64; P .003; hazard 0.38; CI, 0.19-0.74; .003, respectively). Patients had a risk complications (subhazard 0.44; 0.21-0.90; .025). In terms no significant difference observed between 2.54; 0.89-7.22; .081).ConclusionsThe results suggest that regard fewer complications; meanwhile, it comparable reoperation

Introduction: Rheumatic heart disease still remains one of the leading causes of congestive heart failure and death owing to valvular pathologies, in developing countries. Valve replacement still remains the treatment of choice in such patients. The aim of this study wasto analyze the postoperative outcome of double valve replacement (Mitral and Aortic ) in patients of rheumatic heart disease. ...

متن کاملLong-term outcomes after surgery for rheumatic mitral valve disease: valve repair versus mechanical valve replacement.
OBJECTIVES Although mitral valve (MV) repair is known to be superior to replacement in overall clinical outcomes, the appropriateness of valve repair for rheumatic MV disease remains controversial because of the risks of recurrent mitral dysfunction and the need for re-operation. METHODS From 1997 to 2007, 540 patients underwent either isolated MV repair (n=122) or replacement with a mechanic...

Background Threshold countries like South Africa provide cardiac surgery to a largely indigent population with rheumatic heart disease. Although repairs are a preferred treatment modality many rheumatic mitral valves can only be replaced. In view of significantly improved primary health care and broad access of the indigent population to communication technology we revisited the efficacy of mit...
